The Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiore, Firenze, 2023

Climbing to the top of the octagonal dome of Santa Maria del Fiore, in Firenze – the Duomo - we walk through the space contained between the two dome ceilings designed by Filippo Brunelleschi in the fifteenth century. This construction striking materiality, the stone and brick stacking, the walking space between the two dome ceilings - within the constructive thickness of the double dome wall - the succession of more than 400 steps, the escapes and spatial inflections, the small openings in the dome thickness, ventilating, letting natural light in, allowing us to look at the city in different directions as we climb, make the experience of this space quite unforgettable.
